Meet Pete & Sam
Pete (Prickley Pete) came to us with his partner, Sam (Slippery Sam), in July of 2022 when their owner unexpectedly passed away. We immediately opened our gates and took in the pair. Pete (13 years) and Sam (14 years) have brought so much zest and shenanigans to the farm. It brings us so much joy to have them as part of the herd, and we are honored to have been chosen as their permanent home.

CDHR has a very small number of Ambassador horses as they are often sent to CDHR with a specific role to play in promoting draft horses and the rescue by meeting visitors, representing us in parades, teaching skills to our volunteers, and appearing at special rescue events. Ambassador horses will live out their natural lives at Autumn Ridge and cannot be adopted.

No! Before Sam and Pete arrived, we rescued Spencer and Oliver in 2016. They became fast favorites and due to many reasons, they were designated Ambassador horses. Spencer and Oliver enjoyed living their retired lives by meeting the public in parades and at various events! They have both passed, Oliver in 2019 and Spencer in 2025. We miss them dearly but know they are running free and eating grass together again!
